Small stony beach facing west on the island Björnöy (north of Ålesund). Litter degree 8/10. All types of litter – large amounds of Styrofoam, PET bottles, and fishing nets. 3 car wheels, an old “fat” TV set, a large plastic container with metal construction.
We are tired when the alarm goes off at 05:30. We have bad mobile coverage in the tent so we have to sit outside in our underwear and down jacket to be radio interviewed for direct broadcasting by Swedish radio (Naturmorgon – Nature morning). The loud speaker function does not work and we have to pass the mobile between us while shivering in the cold. The interview is consequently not as nice and relaxed as last time, but good enough. We pack up and head towards Ålesund. The weather is good and there is surprisingly little boat traffic to care about this Saturday morning.
We hope that no one documented this “stupid Swedes’” mistake as by paddle out of the bay. It is late but we hope to reach the east side of Hareidslandet befor tomorrow, when winds will increase to 10m/s from the north. We pass Sulafjorden at dusk and paddle fast in order to avoid the cruising ships that suddenly swarm. We paddle in the dark with head lamps the last kilometers before reaching Brandal, where we arrive at 11 PM. We put up the tent in the rain on a small lawn, while skeptically viewed by a couple from a window opposite the street.
