We set the alarm early as usual, but could immediately hear that the wind was too strong for paddling. Johan stuck out his head to see if it was enough sunshine for the solar panels, but no…. it was snowing!
We nevertheless packed up and the weather got better quickly and the sun showed its face. We started paddling close to the shoreline, and could clearly see the waves at the horizon and didn’t know if it would be possible to pass the next cape, but we hope for some protection from Hanningberg further north.
We pass Hamningberg in beautiful evening paddling and set goal for Inner Syltvik. In the distance we see Syltefjord mountain and further away Korsenes mountain where Makkaur lighthouse lies round the corner. We know that this passage can cause problems through fast weather changes and shortly afterwards we indeed observe a weather front making its way down the Korsenes mountainside. The front first looks like it is going to pass us on the north but when we pass one of the last capes before Syltevik we are met by strong winds. We quickly decide to turn around and after the nearest cape we find a good spot for landing and camping.
Tomorrow we hope to reach the impressive Makkaur lighthouse.
