We left on hour before we thought the tide would reach its peak. Everything went well at start, but after having rounded the next point, we met 3 meters high powerful waves. We have not paddled in this type of waves before, but since the wind is not too strong, around 6 m/s, they were were not breaking, and it turns out to go reasonably well. The kayak is amazingly stable as long as one has the paddle in the water. However, we had another problem: our speed approached zero. Johan checks the GPS and realizes that we move with one knot and drift out from land.
We change directing to go straight towards land instead of trying to go across the bay. We move forward with 2 knots, but have to fight for every meter. At last we reach the bay in time for the tide to turn, much later than we had expected. The wind deceases and the water becomes flat and calm, but we are too tired to be delighted. Instead we focus on putting up the tent and get rested before tomorrow. There is still bad mobile reception and no internet.
